Centered on innovation within the power sector and the accelerated transition to smart energy, the 2025 China (Shandong) Power Industry Innovation and Development Conference took place in Jinan on April 28. Under the theme "Intelligence Unites in Qilu, Green Energy Propels the Future," the conference was designed to comprehensively implement the innovation-driven development strategy. It aimed to spotlight remarkable scientific and technological achievements, address technical challenges in new energy consumption, explore the application of artificial intelligence in the power industry, and facilitate Shandong's transformation from a traditional energy hub into a smart energy powerhouse.

Over 1,000 distinguished guests, including leaders from energy and science & technology management departments, renowned experts, scholars, and professionals from domestic power generation, grid companies, comprehensive energy service providers, digital energy support enterprises, and industry frontrunners, convened to chart a new course for the power industry's innovative development.

Co-hosted by the Shandong Electric Power Industry Association and the Shandong Electric Power Science and Technology Association, and organized in collaboration with the Shandong Science and Technology Market, Shandong Qilu Energy Research Institute, Shandong Luban Workers' Innovation and Efficiency Center, and Shandong Electric Power Association Consulting Co., Ltd., the conference boasted a robust organizational framework.

During the opening ceremony, Wang Zhiwei, President of the Shandong Electric Power Industry Association and concurrently Chairman and Party Secretary of State Grid Shandong Electric Power Company; Shi Yubo, President of the China Energy Research Society; and key officials from the Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Shandong Provincial Energy Bureau delivered insightful addresses. Esteemed experts, such as Yuan Shun, a recipient of government special allowances, part-time professor and doctoral supervisor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, and former Director of the Power Safety Department of the National Energy Administration, presented speeches and keynote reports. Their discussions covered topics ranging from deepening the innovation-driven strategy and promoting green, low-carbon transformation to exploring new energy technologies and key photovoltaic power generation techniques. Drawing on the broader national energy landscape, these experts offered in-depth analyses and practical recommendations, illuminating the path for Shandong's power industry to align with national strategies and resonating deeply with the audience.

A significant highlight of the conference was the official inauguration of the Shandong Qilu Energy Research Institute. Spearheaded by the Shandong Electric Power Industry Association in alignment with the "dual carbon" goals, the institute aims to aggregate industry expertise. It will conduct in-depth research on critical energy and power issues, offer intellectual support to industry regulators, and provide technical assurance for corporate strategic development.

The establishment of the Shandong Electric Power Think Tank Alliance was another milestone. Initiated by the association's president and vice presidents, the alliance leverages the platform of the Shandong Electric Power Industry Association. Guided by the principles of "innovation, cooperation, mutual benefit, and development," it will integrate resources, combine strengths, and aggregate information to conduct research on pivotal issues, offer policy recommendations, and facilitate achievement exchanges. Its core mission is to provide decision-making support, foster platform-building, and promote the commercialization of research results, thereby bolstering intellectual support for the high-quality development of Shandong's power industry.

The conference also witnessed the release of new group standards by the Shandong Electric Power Industry Association. Since being designated as one of the second batch of group standard pilot units by the National Standardization Administration in 2018, the association has been actively advancing standardization efforts, having issued a total of 41 group standards to date. The unveiling of standards formulated since 2024 underscored the association's proactive role in driving industry standardization.

Complementing the conference proceedings was an exhibition area dedicated to showcasing the latest technological breakthroughs, products, and solutions in the power industry. This served as an excellent platform for business networking and collaboration.

The event featured three specialized sessions: the New Energy Integration and Innovative Development Seminar, the Power Industry Technological Transformation and Industry-University-Research Collaboration Seminar, and the Artificial Intelligence Large Model Empowering New Power System Construction Seminar. These sessions delved into cutting-edge technologies and emerging trends within specific power industry domains, offering participants valuable insights into industry leadership.

In recent years, Shandong has made substantial progress in constructing the Green and Low-Carbon High-Quality Development Pilot Zone, accelerating its evolution from an "energy giant" to an "energy innovator." By 2025, the province is set to further intensify innovation-driven development, expedite green transformation, and pioneer digital and intelligent integration. Through these efforts, Shandong aims to establish an "Innovation Model of Qilu," contribute to the global energy transition, and play a pivotal role in building a modern energy system characterized by greenness, efficiency, safety, and intelligence.
